Apollo 7 Unflown Robbins Medallion
Unflown sterling silver Apollo 7 Robbins medal, possibly a prototype or salesman's sample, approximately 1â€Â³ in diameter, featuring a raised design of the mission insignia on the face. The reverse is engraved with the mission's dates, â€Å“Oct. 11-22, 1968," and stamped with the Robbins hallmark. Condition is mint state, with mild tarnishing to reverse. Accompanied by a small plastic box and larger hinged "Robbins Awards" case, measuring 6â€Â³ x 4â€Â³ x 1â€Â³. From the collection of a former Robbins Company executive.
Initially designed as a special keepsake for lunar module pilot Walt Cunningham to take aboard the Apollo 7, the Robbins medallion soon popularized amongst NASA astronauts, becoming a well-known carryon for all successive missions. A desirable piece representing the first manned Apollo mission—the one that started the Robbins tradition.
