Description:Approx. 40cwt fine natural sapphire and 18k gold. This heavy, necklace, mid-century modern necklace is a flash of blue sapphire and 18k yellow gold. The box clasp with safety feature is newer to the piece and is marked 14K, but the rest of the necklace tested 18K gold. 95% of all corundum (sapphire and ruby) is low-heat treated to improve color and clarity. It is usually done to the gem rough before leaving the country of origin and before the stone has been cut and polished. This practice has been done for centuries and is considered common practice in the gem industry. Only gemological testing can determine whether a stone has been heat-treated or not. This remarkable necklace weighs 69.2 grams.
