Apulian Pottery Red-Figure Handled Lekythos

**First Time At Auction**

Magna Graecia, Southern Italy, Apulia, ca. 340 to 325 BCE. A petite wheel-thrown lekythos with a footed base, bulbous body, rounded shoulders with a slight pinched neck base, a tubular neck, flared rim, and a single applied loop handle conjoining shoulder to neck. The majority of the vessel displays a lustrous layer of glossy black, characteristic of Apulian pottery, with a large palmette leaf in the center of the body. A lovely and diminutive example! Size: 2.75" H (7 cm).

Condition Report: Age-commensurate surface wear, small area of loss to rim, minor chips and abrasions across most surfaces, and fading to exterior designs. Nice craquelure in some areas, with light earthen and mineral deposits throughout.
