Apulian Red-Figure Style Terracotta Volute Krater

Apulian red-figure style terracotta volute krater of classical baluster form, featuring opposing figural panels depicting classical-inspired figures within architectural settings, including a seated winged figure holding a libation dish, together with portrait medallions, palmettes, scrolling ornament, and geometric borders inspired by South Italian pottery. The vessel is surmounted by elaborate volute handles terminating in theatrical mask medallions. The interior is unglazed with a central vent hole. Bears the inventory inscription "A 29" to the underside. Acquired from a private collection. Sold as a decorative work in the ancient style. Dimensions: 17.25 X 15.75 X 11.25 in.

Condition: Good to fair overall condition with typical age-related surface wear, scattered abrasions, paint loss, and surface soiling. Numerous stabilized cracks and repairs are present throughout the body. Both lower handle attachments exhibit old repairs with associated losses and restoration. A large chip with associated loss is present along the foot rim. Additional scattered chips, losses, and areas of overpainting are visible, consistent with age and handling.
