Apulian Red-Figure Terracotta Volute Kraters PAIR

Pair of terracotta volute kraters in the Apulian red-figure style, each of baluster form with volute handles terminating in molded female mask finials. Decorated with classical figural reserves framed by scrolling foliate motifs, palmettes, and geometric ornament inspired by South Italian Greek pottery of the 4th century B.C. One side of each vase depicts a profile bust of a female figure emerging from elaborate scrolling foliage, while the reverse features a draped figure within a temple-like architectural setting. Acquired from a private collection. Accompanied by a Christie's, New York, "Selection For Sale" valuation dated March 6, 2026, with an estimate of $20,000-$30,000. Approximate measurements: One 29 x 16 x 13 in.; the other 29.5 x 16.25 x 13.5 in.

Condition: Good overall condition with typical age-related surface wear. Both vessels exhibit scattered hairlines, visible restorations, and areas of overpainting. Visible repaired cracks are present throughout the handles, with one vessel exhibiting a repaired crack extending through a handle into the rim, while the other has a crack extending through the stem of the foot.
