LOT 112

Archibald Thorburn (Scottish, 1860-1935)

[ translate ]

Description

Grouse on a moor
signed 'Archibald Thorburn 1922' (lower left)
watercolour on paper
34 x 47cm

Provenance:
Richard Green Ltd., London,
Landwade Hall, Exning, Suffolk

Condition report:

Framed 54 x 66cm

Generally, the watercolour is in a good and stable condition with no major signs of damage, warping, or retouching. There are however minor signs of surface dirt throughout, some discolouration in the sky, and some loose dirt and dust trapped under the glass of the frame. Two small dot-type stains - approximately 1mm in diameter - are visible in the upper left quadrant, as well as a small nick to the paper that has exposed the unpainted layer beneath. A small cluster consisting of four less visible dots are present in the centre between the upper quadrants. There is a small diagonal splatter of white paint across the signature in the lower left - under UV light this splatter fluoresces differently from the surrounding passages of white.
