Ardebil Persian rug, entirely hand-knotted. The city of Ardebil is on the edge of the Caucasus and became an important centre for rug production in the early 50s. The warp and weft are cotton and the pile is wool. The loom used was the vertical type. The knot type is the turkibaft with a density of 10,000 to 20,000 per square meter. The design is typical of Caucasian rugs with three central medallions framed with a border featuring rosettes, animals, stars and geometric figures. The colours are also bright, which is typical of this type. Size: 325 x 136 cm
