Arequipa Vase with Raised Design

[ translate ]

Beautiful vase from the important early 20th Century Arequipa pottery. Located at a sanitarium in Marin, California, pottery was produced from 1911 to 1918 under the supervision of some of the most renowned potters in American history, including Francis Hurten Rhead and Albert Solon.
This vase flares elegantly to the shoulder, and then slopes in to a slightly raised rim. The shoulder is carved with leaves and berries. The glaze is very subtle, with shades of grey/blue over tones of olive/copper, whidh shows through mostly at the edges of the carved leaves.
Clearly marked with the impressed Arequipa California mark, along with impressed numbers.
One tight hairline at the rim, slighly over 1" long, with two associated pinhead nicks. Otherwise excellent condition.
Measures about 4 3/4" high. The wide sloping shoulder gives the vase a substantial presence.
