Arie Boers (1867-1947) - Molens de Jager en de Windhond Dordtrecht

[ translate ]

\Artist: Arie Boers (1867-1947)
Technique: Oil on panel\Signature: Hand signed\Dimensions: 29_38_4_cm
Arie Boers (1867-1947) can rightly be called a 'little master'. Small in his formats, small in the size of his oeuvre, limited in his subjects, modestly working alongside his larger Dordrecht brothers, modest and sometimes timid in his approach and expression. But unmistakably also with something from the master; in his best work a sensitive impressionist, who, in spontaneous tests and with a delicate use of colour, reflected the atmosphere of intimate places in the surroundings of Dordt. As far as we can ascertain, there has never been a separate exhibition of Boers' work. This attempt to do so does not pretend to give an overview at all; lack of data about his person and work, and the difficulty of finding it, did not make this possible. The first and only overview of his work was - ironically - the auction of his estate in 1955. On the occasion of this, the Dordrechtsch Nieuwsblad of 8 July 1955 published a short article about Boe.
