Arizona "Rainbow" Wood
Arizona "Rainbow" Wood
Auracarioxylon arizonicum
Triassic
Chinle Formation, Arizona
A fine cross section slab of petrified wood having vivid red hues intermingled with a variety of other colors which have caused some collectors in the mineral hobby to dub this as "Rainbow Wood". The present specimen has a rich palette of warm browns, red, black and beige. It has been honed to a fine polish for use as a coffee table. Specimens which retain the round outline of the original tree are more rare that those which have been compressed through time and are more oval in shape. Measuring 34 x 32 1/2 x 1 1/2 in
