Armand Guillaumin
(French, 1841-1927)

"Paysage de Creuse, pres de Puy Barriou", ca. 1895

pastel on laid paper
signed lower right, paper watermarked "Ingres 1871", "Christie's, New York" label on frame backing.
Matted, glazed and framed.
17" x 22-3/4", framed 25" x 33"

Provenance: Possibly Christie's, London, U.K. 6 April, 2001, lot 333; Frances Aronson Fine Art, Atlanta, Georgia.

Notes: Guillaumin sketched numerous pastels of the hills and mountains in the Creuse region near the village of Crozant. A pastel with the same composition that is nearly identical to the one offered her is conserved in Paris at the Petit Palais, Musee des Beaux-Arts, access. no. PPD1453
Condition Report: The edges of the paper have been taped with brown tape. Drawing is intact and retains excellent clarity of color. There are two pinholes to the upper left and lower right corners. Paper exhibits light toning, a few specks of foxing and some light buckling to the lower and top center (due to the taping). In overall good condition. Tape can easily be removed by a restorer/conservator.
