Arnaldo Pomodoro (Morciano di Romagna, 23 June 1926) is an Italian sculptor and goldsmith. He is considered one of the greatest contemporary Italian sculptors, well-known and highly regarded also abroad. He is especially famous for his particular spheres made of bronze, the material he prefers for his works. They break up, get “broken” and open before the spectator, who is led to the research and the discovery of the inner mechanism, in a contrast between the perfect smoothness of the shape and the hidden complexity of the inner part. In 1961 and 1962 he was part of the informal group “Continuità” with Lucio Fontana and others.
