In wood with polychrome and fine gilding of origin, very good state of original conservation, without damage by xylophages. Arnao of Brussels (fl. 1536 - 1564). Arnao of Brussels (fl. 1536-1564) was a Spanish Renaissance sculptor probably of Flemish origin, as indicated by his surname, although his training and professional activity took place entirely in Spain. In September 1536, as a young man, he became an apprentice to Damián Forment in Zaragoza, working in his workshop for four years. From 1545 to 1550 he is documented in the lands of the diocese of Calahorra in the companies of Juan de Beugrant, first, and of the Guipuzcoan Andrés de Araoz later. With Beugrant he was able to collaborate in 1545 on the altarpiece of San Vicente de la Sonsierra. But at the same time that he was working on the Genevilla work, In 1550 he contracted on his own account the main altarpiece of the church of San Martín de Alberite, completed in 1555 when Andrés de Araoz was in charge of its appraisal. From the workshop established by Araoz in Genevilla, an altarpiece for Laguardia and the main altarpiece of Elvillar (Álava), which Araoz took over in 1550, in which the intervention of Arnao of Brussels even a year before is undoubted, although his name does not appear in the documentation.
