"Education Before Verdun" is a novel about German "grunts" in the Great War. The story juxtaposes soldiers' private battles against the backdrop of wartime bloodshed and terror. This book is also about the essential randomness and bizarrely coincidental nature of the war that gave us the Dada and Surrealist movements.
