Arts & Crafts Ex voto - Silk - 1850-1900

Very rare large convent embroidery in silk-satin with ancient print of Saint Aloysius Gonzaga praying. Late 19th/early 20th century. Precious and very elegant embroidery with inserts.

Splendid painting in silk blend fabric embroidered with polychrome lilies and enriched with sequins around an oval containing an ancient print depicting San Luigi Gonzaga. Scattered blooms in the print area, which depicts the Saint praying with lily and skull, symbolism typically associated with Saint Louis. Golden border frames the print.

Unstitched edges, visible cut. Fabric stapled to the EDGES of a cardboard panel, as it was previously framed. Some decoration beads missing. Color stripe on the back of the cardboard to which the embroidery was stapled.

Very good condition, modest signs of aging, slight imperfections on some decorations.
