A Faenza faience armorial plate, Ferniani workshop, circa 1786
Decorated with the arms of Tiburzio Cortese in the centre surrounded by Imari-style Oriental flowers issuing from a blue rocky ground within a red trellis band reserved with flower panels, the rim with four flower sprigs within a blue line border around the brown-edged rim, 23.2cm diam. (typical minor chips to the rim)

Another plate from the same service was sold at Bonhams London, Fine European Ceramics, 14 June 2017, lot 11. A soup tureen and cover and an oval stand from the same service is illustrated by G. Liverani, Naioliche settecentesche dell'Emilia Romagna (1981), pl. 63. The author notes that Tiburzio Cortese (1738-1823) was appointed Bishop of Modena in 1786.
