Atget's photographs of la vie quotidienne in Paris inspired Berenice Abbott, Man Ray's assistant, who would become a major photographer in her own right. Abbott rescued Atget's archives...brought them with her to New York in 1929, and spent the next forty years of her life preserving, printing, and promoting his work." - David Levi Strauss in Roth, pp. 60-61. Parr & Badger, Vol. I, p. 127.
