Athene und Merkur

Süddeutschland, um 1720.

In Sandstein gearbeitetes Figurenpaar jeweils auf angedeuteter Plinthe und mit den entsprechenden Attributen: Athene mit geschupptem Brustharnisch, Speer und Schild, Merkur mit geflügeltem Helm und Merkurstab. Witterungssp., minimal besch.

Provenienz:
Die beiden Figuren markierten den Eingang des nun geschlossenen traditionsreichen Auktionshauses Ruef in München. (12511016) (13)

Athena and Mercury

Height: ca. 170 cm each.
Southern Germany, ca. 1720.

A pair of sandstone figures each on implied plinth with their respective attributes: Athena with a scaled breastplate, spear and shield and Mercury with a helmet and his Mercurial wand. Signs of weathering, with minimal damage.

Provenance:
Both figures marked the entrance of the long-standing Auction House Ruef in Munich, which is now closed.

This object has been individually compared to the information in the Art Loss Register data bank and is not registered there as stolen or missing.
