Bound in contemporary calfskin with title label on a leather tag in the second of five compartments separated with a double gold fillet, as well as yellowed edges on the reverse (slightly bumped at the headbands, corners and edges. The covers with a few very small faults and some wear). - For references see above. - As mentioned in the preface on p. XVI, the work is a Portuguese translation and adaptation for young people of Guillaume Delisle's "Introduction à la géographie, avec un traité de la sphere" (1746). Present the 4th, further expanded edition. The Portuguese version of the atlas was first published in 1782. - The maps are all sharply engraved and contrast-rich, there is a detailed index of locations in the appendix. - Some older handwritten marginalia in ink and pencil. Overall in good condition, plates with wide margins and very clean.
