Attic Pottery red-figure kylix, Attributed to the Painter of Brussels, 31 cm diam.

A Kylix was a type of vessel, similar to a goblet or chalice, with two handles so that it could be held with both hands. These vessels were usually intended for Greek festivities, and were therefore used for drinking wine. The decoration on these pieces is usually idle, as they could be appreciated when drinking. Provenance: Nostell Priory, Yorkshire, probably acquired in 1900. Acquired by Stephaan Vermeersch, Sint-Andries, Bruges, Belgium, 1980. Acquired by A. Dijkstra, Maastricht, The Netherlands, 1995 / Swiss private collection, Lugano, 2021 Similar items: The Metropolitan Museum in New York has a very similar kylix stylistically.
