Very beautiful and rare large art deco beer jug with relief decor - ca. 1900's. Designed by Simon Peter Gerz. The jug is attributed to Bruno Mauder.
The beer jug is in excellent condition with minor signs of wear.

Marked: 1363A

Simon Peter Gerz founded the company that bears his name in 1857, and began the actual production of ceramic wares in 1862. The economic upheaval caused by the First World War and its aftermath saw Gerz produce for a short period in 1917/1918 and again in 1923, but nevertheless the company managed to survive for more than 135 years and was established in the period after the Second World War. World War I was even the dominant player among the Westerwald ceramics manufacturers.
