Biography: Asger Jorn was born in 1914 in Jutland, Denmark. In the beginning, he got private painting lessons. In 1936, Jorn moved to Paris to join Fernand Leger's Academie Contemporaine. Later, he was a founding member of the CoBrA-group. His paintings are close to the Informal Art and vary between figurative and abstract painting. Thematically, they are based on Nordic legends and myths. Jorn is especially known for his redesign of old pictures that he bought at flea markets. Whilst his early work shows influences of Le Corbusier, his later style is more dynamic. Asger Jorn's works have been exhibited internationally, and numerous books have been published in his honor.
