Italian painter, Poussin´s brother-in-law, with whom he worked until 1635. His first paintings were very much influenced by Poussin´s work, but as time went by he was also taken with the Nordic painters Elsheimer and Bril, who created more dramatic compositions. From then on Dughet´s work concentrated mostly on luminous and atmospheric aspects of landscape. The small characters who inhabit his paintings were occasionally added by other painters such as Allegrini, Cerquozzi and Maratta.
Duguet painted frescoes for the Roman Palaces of Pamphilj, Quirinal and Borghese.
The Spanish ambassador Cartel Rodrigo bought two of his paintings, which meant that Dughet gained access to the Spanish market. Later, Philip V bought the Maratta Collection, which included various Dughet paintings. The Prado, the National Gallery, the Louvre and the Rijksmuseum all have Duguet paintings among their collections.
