鈐印：「臣郎世寧」、「内廷恭繪」。
註：西方來華畫家中，郎世寧無疑是最知名者，以其為代表的西洋畫家，供奉内廷，向宮廷畫師傳授西畫技藝，追隨者衆，促成東西畫風之交融。
本幅乃清代官員似赴早朝之寫照，於天色未曉之際，家丁挑燈引路，燭火跳動，主僕二人俱籠罩於暖紅光暈中。他身穿石青補服，頂戴花翎，佩挂朝珠，前襟繡錦鷄補子，按制屬二品文官。所處府邸開闊，房屋連簷通脊，府後修建園林，叠山造亭，遍植古木，規格與其身份相符。人物刻畫逼真，面目清晰，眼睛、鼻翼、下頷等處渲染略深，以示骨骼凹凸，其目光深邃如炬，見凝神內歛。朝服、配飾等細節精工細描，刺繡花紋尤見寫實華麗。家丁則衣著樸素，側露臉龐，面目未顯，以襯托畫中主角之形象。
二人身後燈火通明，光綫投射至庭院。院墻外起伏的丘陵，矗立的亭閣、雜樹，在天光中隱現。建築亭閣遵循西畫之透視與光影法，惟兩側房屋高挑，似與傳統中式建築比例不符，當出於西洋畫家之繪畫習慣，燈火澄紅，亦非東方審美般含蓄幽微，而丘陵林木，則出諸水墨筆法，此即當時中西技法互滲之例證。
畫中人不具名號，具體身份未可稽考，與傳統具紀實性質之肖像畫有異。相較正襟危坐之朝服寫照，或遊園賞樂之閒適姿態，畫中主角身處靜謐、幽暗與光影交織的庭院，行赴朝堂早會，既彰顯居廟堂高位，又呈現神秘而肅穆之氛圍，在相類畫作中別具一格。畫上具「臣郎世寧」印，實託名之作，似出於十九世紀中葉後隨者之手。
