Attributed to Jan van der Vaardt

Meijer, this painting, "is reminiscent of the work of Jakob Bogdÿny, a Hungarian artist working in England, but the palette differs. There is, however, a signed flower painting by Jan van der Vaart, who was born in Haarlem, but worked in London and who was mainly a portraitist, and appears to have worked together with Bogdÿny." A similar signed flower painting by van der Vaart was advertised in a 1949 edition of The Connoisseur by G. M. Lotinga, Ltd., London (facsimile accompanies lot).
