After the occupation of Indonesia in 1942, the Japanese introduced the Japanese calender. The year 2604 corresponds with our year 1944. Please compare the present lot with the painting 'Iboekoe' (1946), which was sold at Venduehuis on 28 August 2019 and is now in the collection of the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam, where it was on show in the exposition 'Revolusi', (11 Februari 2022 - 6 June 2022).
