Attributed to William Maw Egley,
British 1826-1916-

A girl in a forest, wearing a blue cloak and straw hat, holding a bouquet of flowers;

oil on canvas, 35.5 x 30.5 cm.

Provenance:
Private Collection, UK (by descent).

Note:
William Maw Egley was the son of the miniaturist William Egley (1798-1870). He was associated with The Clique, a group which included figures such as Augustus Egg (1816-1863), Edward Matthew Ward (1816-1879) and William Powell Frith (1819-1909). Indeed, Egley even collaborated with Frith, painting the backgrounds to many of his paintings, with the influence of Frith's approach evident in Egley's idealised depictions of female figures, sometimes in somewhat fanciful historical dress.
