93 x 120 inches. Chinese needlework. A large Aubusson style needlepoint area rug featuring a central cream-colored medallion with a multi-tonal floral bouquet. The medallion is enclosed within an ornate, shaped frame of mauve and dusty rose, decorated with tan and brown scrolling acanthus leaves. This central assembly is set against a vibrant, deep crimson red field, further embellished at the corners with scrolling foliate motifs and pink floral sprays. The rug is finished with a wide cream-colored outer border featuring a continuous winding vine of flowers and leaves, framed by tan geometric guard borders and a solid brown outer edge. The rug is constructed using wool yarn hand-stitched onto a heavy cotton or linen mesh canvas. The reverse side (photo 5) clearly displays the mesh structure and the individual needlepoint stitches, confirming its flat-weave construction. The edges are finished with a stitched canvas binding.
