Audemars Piguet Tourbillon Automatique 32mm 18K Watch

[ translate ]

Audemars Piguet Tourbillon Automatique 32mm Ultra Thin 18K Yellow Gold Watch W/Black Leather Strap (Ref. 25643) - This historic timepiece from Audemars Piguet represents the first series produced automatic tourbillion wristwatch, and the thinnest still today. This Tourbillion Automatique features a 32mm x 29mm case containing the AP Caliber 2870 movement, which was the first automatic tourbillion movement introduced in 1986. This movement is only 4.8mm thick overall, which was an incredible feat at the time and still today. This Caliber 2870 movement was groundbreaking for many reasons, as at the time tourbillon wristwatches were unbelievable rare with no more than a handful in existence, and were not previously made by any watch makers as a series produced, commercial piece. The movement uses a unique "hammer" winding system (it precluded the use of a full movement diameter rotor), in which a platinum-iridium weight swings through a small arc rather than a full circle. The hammer is visible through the window at 6 o'clock on the dial, and there is no winding crown as the watch can be gently swung to charge the mainspring and the hand-setting is via a small, flat crown set into the case back. The watch has a gold dial with visible tourbillon treated as a stylized sun with rays of sunlight slanting across the dial, derived from an Egyptian relief carving of the Pharaoh Akhenaten and his wife (who became famous posthumously in Western culture as the parents of the Pharaoh Tutankhamun). The watch is fitted with a black leather strap with AP folding buckle. This rare timepiece is truly a must have for any watch collector or enthusiast. The back of the case is engraved "Tourbillon automatique No. 131". Measurements: 6" inside circumference. Condition: The watch is working and is in excellent estate condition with light wear on strap only.
