Audubon Birds of America Abbeville edition

AUDUBON, John James (1785-1851).The Birds of America-The Audubon Abbeville Double Elephant Folio. New York: Abbeville Press, 1985. Double Elephant Folio (40 ¬? x 27 ¬?). Each print is watermarked, "Audubon Society Abbeville Press" with an impressed bird within the mark. Published in conjunction with The National Audubon Society. Complete in four double elephant folio volumes along with the seven quarto text volumes in matching bindings. It was published in an edition of 350 sets of high quality facsimile reproductions of all 435 Audubon Havell originals. About 300 of the 350 sets, of which this is one, were bound into dark green half leather and cloth, heavily stamped in gilt. The remaining prints were sold as loose sets. The Abbeville Edition was the second complete reproduction of Audubon?s original Havell Edition of 1826-38.
