Borget's voyage around the world took him to the Philippines in late 1839, where he sketched in Manila and on his compatriot Paul de la Gironière's estate on the forested Jala-Jala peninsula, before he sailed on for India via Singapore and the Straits of Malacca, returning to Paris in the summer of 1840. His Fragments d'un voyage autour du monde (Paris,1842) includes one plate of Manila and he exhibited two large Filipino pictures at the Salon in 1842 ('Forêts à Jala-Jala, île de Luçon', sold in these Rooms, 10 April 1997, lot 55) and 1847 ('Bords du Passig, à Manille').
