Inscription: lower right collector's stamp Friedrich August II von Sachsen (Lugt no. 971)

Condition: Overall fine, slightly browned, some larger stains, especially above and lower left.

Description: In the foreground, a goat rises through the shallow water of the stream, next to it another one is resting on the bank. On the left is a gnarled, tall tree. At the back right some pollarded willows line the bank, behind them some houses appear. Enfantin probably made this etching during his stay in Italy between 1825 and 1827. In Rome he had contact with artists such as François-Edouard Bertin and Camille Corot. In 1827, at the age of 34, he died in Naples.
