Auguste Musin Dutch Marine Oil Painting 1876

Auguste Henri Musin (Belgian, 1852-1923). Oil on canvas marine painting titled "Scheveningue (Holland.)" depicting boats coming to shore with ships in the background, 1876. Signed and dated along the lower right.

Musin was one of the most prominent marine artists of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His father, Francois Etienne Musin was also a highly noted marine painter. He was awarded an honorable mention at The Paris Salon. He was also awarded a gold medal in Rouen, France and medals in London, Periquex, Limoges, Marseille, Dunkerque, Reims, and more.
Sight; height: 26 in x width: 48 1/2 in. Framed; height: 32 in x width: 54 1/2 in.

Condition Report: The painting is in fair condition with no visible tears, creases, or restoration under UV light. The canvas surface is stable; however, there is craquelure throughout, most noticeably to the sky. To the upper left quadrant, there is an unstable surface with paint losses. Along the upper margin, there is a stretcher's bar mark visible. Wear to the frame. Verso not inspected.
