Austin Healey - Sprite - 1959

Austin Healey Sprite "Frogeye"
\r
The Austin Healey Sprite came onto the market in 1958, as a new and affordable sports car. Donald Healey foresaw a future for this little two-seater. Initially, 2 prototypes were constructed that were intended to be equipped with retractable headlights. However, for cost and cosmetic reasons, this was abandoned and fixed headlights were placed on top of the hood. This gave the car its own look and the legendary nickname Frogeye.
\r
This beautiful and cool Austin Healey was delivered new in 1959 in the United States. The car remained there until 1990. In that year the car was imported by the German company Christoph Dorrscheid from Friedrichsthal. This company sold the car in 1992 to Mr Greiner from Pleidelsheim.
\r
Mr. Greiner was born in 1928 and had the car until 2022. Until then, the car was still completely in its original and unpainted condition. However, Mr Greiner felt that the car's paintwork needed to be touched up due to minor stone chipping. For that reason, he unfortunately sanded the car at the front. Due to illness and his age (94) , he was unable to complete this and sold the car to a classic car company in Heilbronn.
\r
We purchased this gem from that company. The car was accompanied by a completely new interior, new soft top, carpet set and 4 new tires. The tonneau cover is also new.
\r
Technically all technology had been addressed, brake overhaul, engine and gearbox overhaul, new exhaust and 4 new tires on the steel rims with original hubcaps, which are supplied with the car. The car also has the original and completely intact front bumper, which can also be included on request.
\r
As can be seen in the photos, we recently fitted the car with 4 brand new Minilite rims with 4 new tires. 2 new wind deflectors have been mounted on the front window, which make driving with the open top more pleasant. After the overhaul, the car was only driven about 4,000 kilometers.
\r
We have now stripped the car bare and given it a new layer of paint. Of course in the original factory color. It is good to report that no rust was found anywhere on the car.
\r
The removable and new soft top can be completely stored in the appropriate covers. The aluminum top-mounted windows are also stored in covers in the luggage compartment behind the seats. You will also find the original jack and wheel wrench, also in a cover. We fitted the skai leather chairs with real leather, finished with a red piping.
\r
In summary, this is a technically and cosmetically very cool Austin Healey Frogeye that can last for years and that can be enjoyed a lot.
\r
If desired, the car can be provided with a Dutch license plate at an additional cost. We can also arrange transport within Europe in consultation.
\r
It is advisable to view the car extensively before making bids. This is to avoid discussions afterwards. The car is located in Valkenswaard, the Netherlands. You can make an appointment for this via Catawiki.
