Autograph Album.- Incl. John Ruskin A 19th century album featuring letters and clipped signatures by various artists, authors, musicians, politicians and opera singers, including: Laurence Alma-Tadema (autograph letter to "My dear Hall", reading in part "Please write and complain to the manager of the South Eastern Company or whatever company had to deal with your enquire", two pages, 29 July 1877); George Vicat Cole; George Grossmith (signature clipped from the close of a letter); Charles Eastlake (letter informing the recipient that "there is no officially published complete and descriptive catalogue of the watercolour drawings by Turner in the National Gallery...Mr Ruskin has published a small descriptive catalogue of certain selected drawings", 2 pages, 2 January 1892); John Ruskin (autograph letter signed, to George William Coudrey, reading "I have been obliged to give up all ideas of lecturing at present; finishing other work needing to be done and being besides in need of some rest during the summer. Do not take any more trouble about this matter; when I can begin lecturing again, my first will be given in London; and I shall mention in the advertisements of such lectures, whether I can give any in the North", one page, 15 July n.y.); James Baldwin Brown; Eugenie Pappenheim (autograph letter to a journalist, saying "I take the liberty to ask you the favour to hear tomorrow night, Monday 17th, the performance of Aida as I make my first appearance in the title role; and you would oblige me very much, dear Sir, if you would kindly mention a few words about it in your valuable paper as it would be of great importance for me" two pages, 16 November 1879); Charles Lamoureux; John Hullah; Emma Albani; Alfred Fripp; John Bright (note in third person, writing to reserve a bedroom); Frank Lockwood; Lewis Vernon Harcourt (autograph letter, written on behalf of his father, and declining an invitation, two pages, 14 October 1886) and others; some letters loosely inserted but mostly pasted onto album pages, some yellowing, dark morocco, handling wear to board margins and spine extremities, 4to, 19th century.
