To John S(ergeant) Wise, "...I exchange congratulations with you over the results throughout the country. Pursuant to your request, I send you several autographs." Signed as Governor of Ohio on official letterhead. Strong signature, traversed by three vertical creases. * Typed Letter Signed. Canton, Ohio, July 1, 1896. 1 page, 8vo; moderate creases along old folds. To John S(ergeant ) Wise, declining an invitation. Generally strong signature traversed at its center by a vertical crease and at its bottom by a horizontal crease. * Typed Letter Signed. Washington, January 13, 1900. 1 page, 4to; light to moderate creases along old folds. To Colonel Thomas P. Ochiltree, "I have been much gratified to receive a cordial invitation from the Confederate Veteran Camp of New York, to be present and respond to a toast at its Tenth Annual Banquet... I find that engagements will prevent me from attending this Re-union..." Signed as President of the United States on Executive Mansion letterhead. Strong clear signature, traversed by vertical crease through the first "i" of "William" and touched at the top of his full signature by a light horizontal crease. * Card signed and inscribed, dark, strong inscription and signature on State of Ohio, Executive Chamber, Columbus card.
