Avant-garde Turin painting on cardboard, abstract-figurative composition, 80x60 cm
Turin avant-garde painting on cardboard, abstract-figurative composition, 80x60 cm
An abstract expressionist artwork created using mixed media on a rectangular ochre-colored cardboard panel. The composition, attributable to the Turin avant-garde school, features a fragmented and complex arrangement of various human figures and faces rendered in a style clearly influenced by Cubism. The central figurative subject is characterized by large, expressive eyes and simplified facial features, defined by a color palette that favors pastel pink, pale blue, and lavender. These delicate tones contrast with the bold black outlines rendered in charcoal or oil pastel and with small accents of vivid red. The application of color—likely gouache and pastel—appears energetic and layered, leaving portions of the cardboard support visible along the outer edges. There are no visible signatures, dates, or artist’s marks on the front of the work. The cardboard support shows the typical marks of its material nature, with the edges left untrimmed.
80 x 60 cm.
The work is in overall condition consistent with its age and the materials used. The edges are rough and unfinished, with small nicks and scattered signs of wear along the perimeter (photo 1). The corners show slight softening and rounding. There are slight superficial abrasions and scuffing of the paint layer, characteristic of friable media such as pastel. The cardboard support has a slight discoloration and a mild natural waviness, with no serious creases or obvious tears. No restoration or repairs are visible.
