Abu Ali al-Husayn ibn Abdallah Ibn Sina, known as Avicenna, Al-Isharat wa al-Tanbihat (Hints and Indications, a treatise on logic, physics, philosophy and metaphysics), copied by Ali bin Awad Bek, in Arabic, decorated manuscript on paper [Western Persia or possibly Iraq, dated 910 AH (1504 AD)]

two parts in one volume, 210 leaves, textually complete, single column, 23 lines cursive black naskh, occasional headings and overlining in red, contemporary marginalia and commentary throughout, numerous ownership inscriptions and seals to preliminary and penultimate leaves, a few scuff marks and one small tear with loss to one leaf, else good condition internally, 245 by 160 mm.; later burgundy calf with flap, rebacked and edges repaired, a little worn

An attractive copy of one of Avicennas most important works, copied by Ali bin Awad Bek in the western areas of Persia, possibly Tabriz, at the turning point between the Timurid and Safavid dynasties.

This text is perhaps the most impressive achievement of the tenth-century Persian polymath Avicenna, commonly overshadowed by his more well-known Canon of Medicine and Book of Healing. The intricate and complicated narrative in the present text is divided into two sections, the first dedicated to logic and the second to philosophy, including areas of metaphysics and Sufism. It was subject to much scrutiny by Al-Radi and similar early scholars, because of the dense nature of the text, however, Tusis commentary of the work celebrated it for those same characteristics.
