Aymar Alexandre Pezant, French 1846-1916- Cows grazing in a meadow on a summer's day; oil on canvas, signed (lower right), numbered '15' in stencil (on the reverse) 54 x 65.2 cm., (unframed). Note: A native of Normandy, and influenced by the landscape and animal paintings of Vuillefroy Felix Dominique (1841-1910), Pezant absorbed the rich tradition of landscape painting and scenes of daily life from his surrounding area. The subject of cattle situated in pastoral landscapes was one in which he returned to time and time again, and he clearly enjoyed playing with the effects of natural light on the landscapes he composed. Later in life, he achieved multiple awards and recognitions.
