Azurite altering to Malachite "Bow-Tie" Tsumeb Mine, Tsumeb, Oshikoto Region, Namibia "A doubly terminated cluster of sharp shiny prismatic azurite crystals about 2.5 inches long with malachite alteration taking place in their centers. The crystals are more or less in parallel formation. Bought this specimen from Lee Shale." - Rock H. Currier It was showy Azurite/Malachite specimens like this one that put Tsumeb on the map with collectors, along with the incomparable splendor of its Dioptase. Typically stout and lustrous Azurite prisms show varying degrees of alteration to Malachite, alteration that faithfully retains the form of the Azurite. Where there is free space to do so, the Azurite sometimes forms doubly-terminated crystals, but that is the exception and not the rule. This glassy, deep blue Azurite is highlighted by the green Malachite alteration - an extremely fine specimen from a by-gone era. Overall Measurements: 2.6 x 1.4 x 0.8 inches (6.5 x 3.5 x 2.0 cm) Offered at no reserve Provenance: Bought from Lee Shale [RHC #900, acquired 1967] [Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
