Rare and unusual piece of woven raffia currency originating among the Babunda in the Idiofa region of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The raffia is woven into bundles with braided ends. This particular example measures 34.75 inches in length, and approximately 1.25 inches in width. Cloth was valued in Africa, yet it was mainly unused or new cloth that was used as currency.
