BAGUE en or sertie d'une intaille sur grenat figurant le buste d'un jeune satyre, de profil v. la gauche, le dos de trois-quarts et couvert d'une peau animale. Le personnage bacchique est caractérisé d'un nez proéminent et d'une bouche entrouverte, inspiré des modèles de l'art grec hellénistique. La chevelure composée de longues mèches ondulées rappelle aussi l'iconographie hellénistique des satyres. L'expression du visage est vivante accentuée par des sourcils froncés, des yeux grands-ouverts ainsi que la bouche presque en mouvement. La main de droite positionnée vers le haut en face du visage, avec l'index relevé. Cette gestuelle renvoie à celle du silence, présente sur certaines gemmes de l'Antiquité jusqu'à la période néoclassique et faisant référence à la symbolique du Secret. Cependant ici, un autre degré d'interprétation est à envisager. La main éloignée de la bouche et l'expression quasi-contrariée du satyre peuvent évoquer un avertissement ou une incitation à l'ascension. En effet, le satyre représente le monde Bacchique, celui des plaisirs charnels terrestres et des bas instincts. Il est donc symbole de l'Être sauvage, animal. La couleur rouge-ambré de la pierre renvoie aussi au monde érotique et sanguin. Cependant, cette gestuelle vient contre-balancer l'impression que dégage ce personnage, en invitant le spectateur à une ascension spirituelle ou intellectuelle. Une gestuelle similaire est présente sur un camée sur agate représentant le buste d'une Muse (interprétée comme Philosophia en référence à la méditation et à l'ascension spirituelle), Florence, Museo degli Argenti, Collezione Medici, inv. Gemme del 1921, n°28. Le revers de la pierre est faceté en pointe. Présence de signes d'usures. Les détails sont exécutés avec une grande maîtrise. However, this gesture comes to counterbalance the impression given off by this character, by inviting the spectator to a spiritual or intellectual ascent.
