[ translate ]

Seven pieces of various sizes and inclusions
Circa 50–60 million years
Amber Strip Mines, Poland, Eastern Europe
12.5 × 10.4 × 6.1 cm (largest)
1.9 × 1.4 × 0.5 cm (smallest)

Provenance:
Private collection, Switzerland

The Baltic region is home to the largest known deposit of amber, called Baltic amber or succinite. It was produced sometime during the Eocene epoch, but exactly when is a matter of debate. It has been estimated that these ancient forests created more than 100 000 tons of amber. Today, more than 90% of the world's amber comes from Kaliningrad Oblast of Russia. Numerous extinct genera and species of plants and animals have been discovered and scientifically described from inclusions in Baltic amber.

Presented here are seven pieces of very well-preserved pieces of genuine gem quality Baltic Amber containing different fossil insects. With an estimated age of 50–60 millions of years, these insects could even be from the same era as TRX-293 Trinity, the T. rex highlight of this auction.
