(Lacking half-title to vol. I, some offsetting and spotting to text and plates.) Contemporary polished calf, marbled edges (rebacked preserving original spines). Provenance: Grantham (armorial bookplate and shelf labels).

FIRST EDITION of Barrow's important account written from observations made while on the staff of Lord Macartney during the first British occupation. Barrow gives a good description of the country as seen on several journeys to Graaf-Reinet, Namaqualand and Algoa Bay, together with opinions of the inhabitants. Abbey Travel 320; Gay 2996.
