[BATTLE OF HEILBRONN]: 48 STAR AMERICAN FLAG.
[USA, 1943], recovered near Langenbrettach, April 1945.
A large 48-star national flag. 1480 x 1800 mm. The flag stenciled at the hoist "1943", white stars sewn on individually in the canton, nickel grommets. Heavy battle damage, tears and holes, heavily stained and discolored, blown out at the fly, probably flown over a control post or HQ.
Provenance: Recovered from the Battlefield of Heilbronn or Langenbrettach by a local man from Langenbrettach, north-east of Heilbronn; Acquired by a German WW2 collector, based in Belgium.

A fine battle-worn American flag reputably recovered by a local man from Langenbrettach. It was the 100th Infantry Division that took Heilbronn and Langenbrettach, and this flag was probably left behind by that division as they moved forward into Germany.
