Usually made of plastic, they come in a range of sizes, from 50% to 1000%. They are known for their limited release collaborations with artists, streetwear and high fashion designers, and musicians. This Be@rbrick is a collaboration between two Japanese streetwear brands, BAPE and READYMADE. BAPE was founded in 1993 by Japanese designer Nigo and gained popularity in the United States in the late 1990s to early 2000s. Since then, BAPE has become an iconic global streetwear brand. The brand has participated in numerous collaborations with equally popular brands and artists, such as Supreme and KAWS. BAPE is most known for their shark hoodie and their distinctive take on camo that contains a distorted ape head. READYMADE was founded in 2013 by Japanese designer Yuta Hosokawa, and produces limited release accessories and clothing from vintage military fabrics, with a mission of promoting world peace. READYMADE pieces are recognizable by their patchwork and distinctive army green fabric. For this collaboration, rather than printing the design on the figure, the Be@rbrick sports a custom made BAPE shark hoodie using READYMADE’s upcycled military fabric. It features BAPE’s signature camo and shark face, as well as READYMADE’s army green fabric and patches. This collaboration between two of the most popular Japanese streetwear brands and the inclusion of the iconic elements of each brand make this Be@rbrick highly significant and collectible.
