BERNARDO STROZZI (Genoa, 1581 - Venice, 1644) Virgin with Child Oil on canvas, Ø cm. 31. Framed The painting is accompanied by th expertise by Ferdinando Arisi. The fluid and casual pictorial trend, the brushstroke dense with material yet capable of admirable lightness and liquidity, the delicate vagueness of the expressions should leave no doubt about the full autograph of this small tondo. Clearly intended for private devotion, in all likelihood as a headpiece, the canvas has a close and unquestionable relationship with various paintings by Bernardo Strozzi in the early decades of the seventeenth century. In particular, as recently noted by Anna Orlando, our canvas is closely linked to a Madonna and Child with San Giovannino in a private collection (Genova 2019, n. bust, the group of Virgin and Child. LITERATURE: Bernardo Strozzi 1582-1644. The conquest of color, cat. of the exhibition, curated by A. Orlando and D. Sanguineti, Genoa, Palazzo Nicolosio Lomellino, 11 October 2019 - 12 January 2020, fig. 2, p. 190).
