Description:

VG+ (4.5). Light stress to spine, light crease mark to top right corner of front cover, light vertical crease, a few tiny (1mm) edge nicks to back cover. A lovely copy teetering on the brink of 5.0. Off-white pages. Cover: Myron Fass? Art: Myron Fass, Vince Napoli?, John Belfi, Henry Kiefer. Used in SEDUCTION OF THE INNOCENT. Overstreet: "Corpse on cover swipe/VOH #26; girl on cover swipe/Advs. Into Darkness #10." GPAnalysis: A 4.5 sold for $880 in June 2021; a 5.0 sold for $818 in April 2020.

"Children are first shocked and then desensitized by all this brutality." — Dr. Wertham, Seduction of the Innocent.

The source of Dr. Wertham's umbrage is a panel depicting murder and mutilation, although EC fans are likelier to be outraged by the blatant cover swipe from Jack Davis's classic splash page for Vault of Horror #26. The cover, possibly by Myron Fass, actually features two swipes for the price of one: the corpse is pure Davis, but the screaming gal is cribbed from Ross Andru's cover to Adventures into Darkness #10. Fass would go on to become one of the sleaziest magazine publishers of the 1970s, peddling a plethora of drecky mags in the worst possible taste, before sinking into paranoia and self-imposed isolation.

A deluxe limited edition of 12 hardcover catalogues is available, in addition to a small number of softcovers. 400 lots, fully illustrated. Fun reference, great keepsake. Softcover $40, deluxe hardcover with dust jacket and limitation plate $200. Eight of the 12 hardcovers are pre-ordered and the rest will go quickly, so reserve yours now. To order, contact ivan@pbagalleries.com.
