Title: BEWARE! TERROR TALES No. 1
Place Published:
Publisher:Fawcett [Indicia: Fawcett Publications, Inc.]
Date Published: May, 1952
Description:

VG- (3.5). Dampsoiling to bottom edge of covers and adjacent pages near spine, rust migration to covers and pages at bottom staple, ink transfer to front cover at logo area. Staples appear to be replaced. White pages. Cover: Bernard Baily. Art: Bob Powell, Bernard Baily, Shelly Moldoff? GPAnalysis: No reported sales in this grade. A 4.0 sold for $200 in November 2020.

Crude stuff but with a certain goofy charm. One tale features a guy who flogs African natives only to be turned into a giant white ape. "Fawcett's best artists, [Bob] Powell and [George] Evans, appear to have stopped working for the company in late 1952; Beware! Terror Tales came along rather late and this means that these masters fail to appear in any issue after #2 (exception: a Powell story in the last issue, #8). Frankly, the art inside Beware! Terror Tales is not great. The best work appears on the covers; the first five are credited to Bernard Baily, who drew so many great covers for Gillmor." — George Suarez, Tales To Terrible To Tell #10. NEC: 1993, p. 19.

A deluxe limited edition of 12 hardcover catalogues is available, in addition to a small number of softcovers. 400 lots, fully illustrated. Fun reference, great keepsake. Softcover $40, deluxe hardcover with dust jacket and limitation plate $200. Eight of the 12 hardcovers are pre-ordered and the rest will go quickly, so reserve yours now. To order, contact ivan@pbagalleries.com.
