Chipping to spine ends and some corners, free front endpaper in volume 1 loose, chipping to edges of early leaves, scattered dampstaining, especially to first few leaves of volumes 1 and 4, ownership inscriptions, browning and spotting throughout.

The "Thomson's Bible" was the first English translation directly from the Septuagint in its original Greek. Thomson was Secretary of the Continental Congress from 1774-1789. He spent 20 years preparing his translation. This work was also the first Bible issued by a female publisher in America: Jane Aitken, who succeeded her father Robert Aitken in running the printing house that had published the first English Bible in America.
